Young people

We are very fortunate to have a vibrant and gifted group of Young People aged between 11 and 18 as part of our community at CBC and we are privileged to walk alongside them as we help them understand what it is to be an authentic disciple of Jesus… And they often walk alongside us too.

We gather as a youth group once a week on a Sunday morning during our weekly service to explore the sermon topic in a dynamic way allowing the Young People to delve deeper into the Bible passage for that week. We also meet at different times during the week, month, and year often with help from other organisations including WCCYM and YFC.

CBC works very closely with WCCYM (West Cambridge Christian Youth Ministries) to help put on bigger and better events in and around Comberton enabling us to walk alongside even more Young People. From weekly lunch clubs in local secondary schools to a monthly youth service with dinner to annual punting and residential trips, WCCYM runs something for everyone. For more information about WCCYM talk to Nick or visit their website.

EDGE Community Youth Club

On Thursday afternoons during term-time, CBC hosts EDGE a community youth club for all young people in and around Comberton. EDGE has something for everyone: Table Tennis, Pool Tables, Games Consoles, Craft, and if you would rather have a chat, or get some advice, there are three sessional youth workers who are trained to be able to help you with where you are.

EDGE runs from 4pm to 6pm in the main church building ever Thursday during term-time.

Meet Nick

Nick Slater is the youth worker at CBC. He has a wide range of experience from being a Youth Worker for Youth For Christ, Pitlochry Baptist Church and Gold Hill Baptist Church to being an Assistant Manager of a coffee shop.

Nick is happiest when drinking a great cup of coffee and thinking creatively about how to share the news of Jesus with everyone he meets, often using film. He is enjoying the challenge of taking the CBC Vision and Values and moulding the youth work to fit.

Nick studied Applied Theology and Performing Arts at Regents Theological College where he met his wife, Emma, and they have a lovely little girl called Isla. Use the form to contact Nick and find out more about the youth work at CBC, whether you are a young person or interested in youth work.
